Understanding the Package Insert

This online course includes information regarding how to find and interpret specific information provided by DailyMed and the official FDA package insert for any drug.

The DailyMed site provides a comprehensive up-to-date resource of medication content and labeling found in medication package inserts (PI). The drug labeling information on their site is the most recent submitted to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

• The package insert (PI) is the official FDA approved drug information source for any drug approved for use in the United States. The PI can be intimidating prior to understanding how to find and interpret specific information.
• This course explains the standardized template for presenting drug information in the package insert. It explains each of the main categories of information and what is contained in each category.
